JUST ONE THING

Found this presentation via a fellow "twitterer" thanks Yvonne http://tlpsart.edublogs.org/

It was interesting that the presenter reiterated the idea that teachers dont have to have a wealth of experience or knowledge when using technology. Teachers too can be learners alongside of their students. We dont have to be the delegated driver, sometimes it is fun and far more valuable to be a passenger. The idea of not having to be an expert is reassuring for me as I watch and learn so much from my own children who are comfortable in their exciting and ever changing world.

SEIZE THE DAY

People choose to become teachers for many different reasons. I became a teacher because of my previous experience as a less than cooperative student . As a student the traditional classroom failed to meet my needs as a learner. Disengagement and behavioural problems flourished whilst interest, creativity and attendance diminished. "Back in my day" I don't know if teachers had much choice in how the classroom worked, perhaps it simply was a matter of "feeding" students with factual content that would be regurgitated at a later date. Everyone sat so still and contributed so little.

As a teacher I hope to provide the students in my class with countless opportunities to become empathetic, reflective, creative and motivated learners. The world outside the classroom is exciting and rich in opportunities to succeed and to "seize the day".

I hope to use this blog to keep a little focus in my learning and teaching journey. I want to seize the magic of each and every day for my students and for myself. I wonder how I will go?
